FLAG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – LEONARDO DA VINCI AND LINEAR PERSPECTIVE
31 Marzo 2022 - 3 Aprile 2022

After visiting the Leonardo’s Interactive Museum, trying the real working machines and mechanisms designed by Leonardo da Vinci, We were excited to start this project.
In primary school kids studied the life and art of Leonardo Da Vinci! They learned that he was practically a genius in all the amazing inventions and art that he created. We studied The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. In addition to being an amazing realistic painter, he drew in his sketchbook the first helicopter, tank and even a robot well before these were even created!
After studying the robot invention, 2nd graders created their own robots and learned how to make 2D shapes three-dimensional by using pencils.
Fourth and fifth graders made Google Slides presentations and this led to the perfect opportunity to practice portraits.
Mona Lisa is the best and most used Art Parody example of all times. Every Mona Lisa character of our projects is a caricature of a particular topic we have been talking about at school: healthy food, different countries and cultures, fiction, animals and so on. The kids gave vent to their creativity, being inspired by Pop Art and the personal message is contained in each of these authentic works of art.
I figured I would forego another one in favor of a lesson on linear perspective.
Da Vinci’s Last Supper provides a perfect example of one-point perspective, so naturally we studied it as our guide. We settled on the field of tulips landscape and the cityscape from a bridge. While in first grade we created a perspective 3D pop-up, that gave them the idea of space and depth in art.
Thanks Leo, we’ll be back soon!
